I would like to express concern about the latest seizure by the Assembly of the transportation planning process and the convenient shelving of the Coastal Trail extension ("20-year traffic planning upended," Oct. 26). We the people have followed the rules for three years providing input, spending time and money to study these two issues, only to be dashed by a hurried Assembly session.
It is assumed that the Assembly is like a board of directors that ensures the direction of the community and creates its policy. Micromanagement is not one of the roles of a governing body.
For one body to have a hidden agenda and suddenly spring it on their employees and we the people is definitely not in good form. To ignore and disregard the requests and opinion of the voters is a fast track to disenchantment and chaos. Every Alaskan I talk to is unhappy with no longer having a say in what happens to our city, state or country. Give us back our voice and our vote and stop playing the very dangerous empire/dictator game.

It was a real disappointment to hear that the Assembly downgraded the importance of extending the Coastal Trail ("20-year traffic planning upended," Oct. 26). This project remains one of the best ways to improve Anchorage in the long term.
